Hindutva News Analysis - Settlement Freeze in Judea and Samaria - Israelis should learn from the American experience of "Westward Ho!"
_________________________________________________________________________
The Mitchell Committee Report that is in the news these days, calls for a freeze of Jewish settlements on the West Bank and other areas clamied by Palestinians as their own. The refusal of the Israeli government to accept these proposals of the Mitchell Report are cited by the Palestinians as the reason for the continuing violence. Not to say that the violence of the PLO began far far before the Mitchell Report was even conceived. But today the non acceptance by the Israeli Government of the settlement freeze is touted as the reason for the continuing cycle of violence.
Emulate the Americans' - Westward Ho!
We would like to ask only one thing from the Israelis. Dear Jewish Friends, you have learnt many things from our common friends the Americans. So in the context of settlements also you should emulate the Americans in their policy of expanding Westwards in the 19th century. You should take inspiration from happenings in 19th century USA - the movement for new settlements (farms), the opening up of these areas by the railroad, the Wild West frontier, the romanticized Cowboy Culture; all of which is epitomized by one phrase "Westward Ho!"
It was the efforts of the American pioneers, which pushed the frontiers of civilization from Virginia and Yorktown upto California. Had it not been so, then today, the USA would have remained limited to the East Coast and to the states that gained independence in 1776!
Those who cite the Mitchell Report and ask the Israelis to put a freeze on settlements in Judea and Samaria (West Bank), would do well to remember what the American pioneers did in the 19th century. So what is wrong if the Israeli pioneers do the same things today?
