Kudos to Pervez on his first step in fighting theology-inspired terrorists
The first tentative steps have been taken by the Military ruler of Pakistan, President Pervez Musharraf, who takes inspiration from the founder of modern Turkey - Mustapha Kemal Pasha or Ataturk. Yesterday the Pakistani authorities began their tentative attempts to curb the activities of the Jihadi groups in Pakistan.
The Lashkar-e-Toiba, along with other Shia and Sunni Jihadi groups have been raided and their banner and donation boxes have been confiscated.
A good enough start if the initiative is not left half way!
Quick Volte Face by General Aziz - The ISI doing its job behind the curtain?
A doubt comes to mind about this, since General Aziz was quick to state that there is no ban on the Jihadis groups' activities, nor are they prohibited from collecting donations and displaying their arms. This sends conflicting signals. It also shows that the Pakistani military has not made up its mind of taking on the Jihadis. There are Jihadi elements in the Pakistani Military as well and General Aziz, the number two in the Pakistani military hierarchy, is sympthatic to their outlook. This is a dangerous portent for peace in South-Asia and encourages the growth of theology-inspired terrorism in Pakistan/Afghanistan - which has become the breeding and seeding ground for the Islamic Jihad.
